I finished closing up the body of my current build last night and pulled it out of the Gobar deck this morning. This is the 0-sized 12-fretter that I am building as a gift for my daughter. It is sitka over EIR. She'll be keeping this in her college dorm and dragging it around to unknown destinations for years to come, so I'm trying to make it fairly stout. So far this is looking better and progressing more smoothly than my previous (first) effort. I don't know that I'll have it ready in time for Christmas, but it should be close. Either way, I think she's going to love it.

Good work and what a great Christmas gift!

By the way, what is it that you are using as pad on the top?

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. Kevin Gallagher helped me put the kit together and he does have some nice wood sets. You can't really tell in the photos, but the top shows heavy silking as well.

I recently resurfaced my workbench and used a leftover piece of thin masonite to protect the top and back plates while gluing them to the rim. On my first build I used narrower cauls and they worked fine for clamping. However, one of my bars slipped on me and gave the top a heavy slap. Scared the heck out of me and disaster was avoided only out of sheer luck. This time I decided to cover the entire surface.

Thanks again,
George :-)
