If my binding is .08" and my purfling is .04" wide would I need a bearing to cut 0.12" ( .08+.04)? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bindings,_t ... t_Set.html |

You will be proud of the side allowing some space for glue. |

That's where the scraper comes in, correct? |

I posted this but it disappeared when I hit submit???? When you use fish paper (fiberboard) purfling) and or wood binding with PVA glue the paper and wood will swell some from the moisture in the glue. If you use plastic or celluloid bindings and ABS purfling they will not. In either case some room is taken up by glue. CA will not swell fish paper or wood much at all, almost nil. Any glue with h2o will. What I do is cut my channels to the exact with of my purfling and or binding and scrape back as they swell should be only between .002"-.004". Some prefer to scrape the rim flush to the binding so they cut .002" to .004" deep. So there is no one answer that covers all. |

So, my logic above does make sense? "If my binding is .08" and my purfling is .04" wide would I need a bearing to cut 0.12" ( .08+.04)?" I am only wanting to buy 2 bearings from stewmac and I want to make sure they are the correct ones. Thanks Matthew |

The Stew Mac bearings are supposed to cut an extra .012" to allow for the swelling if I recall correctly. I just did a job with the .120" bit and all was well, with out much scraping needed. |

I always test fit everything. I have found that you can't use the math on the bearings and expect it to be perfect. |
