I finished up my first build this past week. It's a kit from LMI. It's your basic Martin style looks and bracing.

The top is Red Spruce. Back, sides and neck are mahogany. The finish is TruOil. It turned out pretty well I think. I know I've got a lot to learn too though.

She looks great! How do you like tru-oil and how did you fill the pores?

Thanks guys.

Stephen, I really liked the tru oil. It was pretty easy to use. There is a little haziness to the back and sides. I don't notice the haze anywhere else and everywhere else I sealed with shellac first (neck and headplate included). The TruOil was applied on the back and sides over porefiller and stain with no sealer over them, so that maybe the cause. I used LMI's microbead pore filler. I like the color but I'm not sure if I would use it again. I didn't get the pores 100% filled.

So do you mix the stain and the micro beads?

Kim and Waddy, thank you. Stephen, I porefilled with the dark walnut microbead filler then applied the stain all on bare wood. I was afraid if I sealed with shellac then porefilled and sanded back to wood that whatever shellac was left in the pores would dissolve when the alcohol based stain was applied. Now whether that's true or not is another matter. I'll have to do somthing different next time I stain mahogany.

Jeremy, that is a great lloking guitar!!! How does she sound? Is the sound what you were expecting?

I think it sounds pretty good, maybe great. It has a pretty rich sound while still having a woody tone with a lot of body. I don't really know what I expected, I was hoping for it to sound like a 1935 Martin D-18 though
