I have built 10 guitars to date. Making my first bass. The very small distance between the end of the bridge hardware and the edge of the body on many basses concerns me and I don't want to run into a situation where the bridge falls off the face of the guitar.

I am using a 35" scale length. I am planning to use a hipshot rickenbacker style bridge. http://www.bestguitarparts.com/guitar-p ... Bridge.htm

Any idea how far from the lower edge of the bass body I should use as my scale length location?

Really whatever looks right to you. You could have it right at the edge if you wanted, and I'm sure it would still work just fine. As long as your bridge is pretty well adjustable, I'd say put it in a spot that looks right and will line up at 35" with a little leeway on both sides for adjustment. I've done bridge repositioning before too, it's not a big deal for a hardtail.
