For those who have built electrics...perhaps a good start would be to introduce each other to some of the Electro-Axes we have build. This may inspire others as well as serve to find an interest level among the members. Here are a few of mine. JJ, that is sweet! I'm not a builder, more of an "assembler". I've built several electrics from aftermarket parts. It's fun, but I'm hoping to move beyond that to actually building starting sometime this year('09). This place, whether the subject has been electric or acoustic, has been an invaluable source of information and encouragement, and I look forward to watching this part of the forum grow, and to seeing all of the beautiful instruments I know the members here have produced. I also look forward to being able to contribute to them, as well. |

Well, I've been member here for quite awhile, but mostly in lurk mode, since my acoustic building work has ground to a halt due to my house falling apart. But, before I started building acoustics, I built quite a few electrics. Here's one of my favorites. Based on a Tele, it has a bookmatched cocobolo face (that's actually thicker than it appears - about 3/8") on a padouk body with curly maple binding on the top. The neck is Indian rosewood with a Macassar ebony fingerboard and red abalone marker blocks. Electrics are Duncan pickups, a five way selector switch, Graphtech Ghost bridge piezo pickups, a volume, electric/piezo blend and EMG SPC boost knobs. Mini toggles select electric, electric piezo blend or just piezo output, and SPC on/bypassed. The output has two jacks; one for the blended output (whatever the selector switch is set for) and the other is piezo-only. So, here she is: And the back view: |

I love your Les Paul, JJ. My pictures aren't very good, but I'll post what I have. I have a recently finished strat (I like Fender models) that I haven't photographed yet, but I'll be sure to do something quickly. This is a Jazzmaster with strat pickups (Lollar Blondes) and a master tone control. Very interesting sound. It was my lesson in the way the sound of an electric is effected by mass. My strat is right around six pounds, and this was around 10. The strat is very mid-rangey, and this is a brighter guitar. The video was recorded amidst an allergy attack and all |

Nice Axes, Dudes! Looks like a fair amount of interest on the inaugural day. Keep em' coming! Wouldn't it be great if somebody had a series of detailed build pics. If you have such, please start a thread describing your build. What a great thread to get the interest flowing. |

Here are a couple: Chambered Doublecut in Ribbon Sapele and Euro Sycamore: Chambered Les Paul: As I built the Les Paul I kept a photo journal, and recorded my progress on Project guitar. The build account is available on my blog, here: http://home.asparagine.net/ant/blog/?page_id=4 |

I will try, with a work in progress. I did not make this buckeye burl Tele. But, drop filling and finish progress has been enough investment that I should claim it. Will be a two DiMarzio Vintage Air when all is done. mt(ps-bottom photo is actual color temp.) |

Dang, these are all fantastic guitars. The basses are just beautiful Dave. I'll not be posting my first TYVM. Kinda like my first acoustic, my first electric was just to see if I could do it. My next builds are to see if I can do it well. All of those are just amazing. Darrin |

My Tele with contoured body and self wound pups and undersaddle pickup. 4 way switch which allows both pups in series for humbucking. I never got around to making a neck so I just put a fender neck from a 52RI Tele that I got on ebay. And me in my special room. |

Excellent thread... Here are some photos of my first solid body... I usually build chambered electrics. This one was a commission from a long time client of mine that wanted to play exclusively with my guitars and that needed a real solid body! The maple top is from our friend Rich (from a couple of swapmeets ago), the core is Douglas Fir, the back is mahogany. The neck is a multi-laminate of maple and mahogany and the fretboard is honduras rosewood. The nut is a lamination of ivory from piano keys and maple. The pups are Seymour Duncan and the bridge/tailpiece is from TonePros. The guitar sounds as heavy as a "Paul" but with more string to string definition... I think this comes from the Douglas fir core... I put this on the "lightside" page, but I figure Ill post it over here. too. Just finished last weekend. Other than a bad volume pot problem that I fixed today, It sounds great. Some may remember my post a few weeks ago title (i think) "I've entered the darkside" This is the guitar I was referring to when I made that post. Boy did I hear about my choice of words. But I'm glad to see Lance and Brock are giving us electric builders a place to hang. Thanks to you guys. Flamed Redwood top and back, center poplar Neck is maple and walnut Wilkinson tele set of pickups Tone? Bright. I really like it though. And It's fun to play. Turn up the gain, put it on both pickups and it flat out rips. |
