Post subject:  first guitar build

Just recently decided I wanted to make my own guitar over winter break and I wanted to do it as cheaply as possible. I'm basing it on my squier strat. Traced and cutout the template on 1/4" plywood. Glued a body together with 3/4" plywood (2 sheets together). I plan on building the neck as well. I'll probably get things going more when it gets closer to springtime and I'll post pics of the build so you all can give me some feedback. This is is just a learning process for me so I can do better and spend more money on the next one.

Also, I decided I would make my own pups. I just bought 8 lbs of 43 awg magnet wire online for $63. Is that a good deal or could I have gotten better elsewhere?? I'm trying to think of the best things to wind with (drill, hand drill, fan, sewing machine, and turntable are a few I've seen). Anyone got any good ideas?

For wind pickups, I tried my first set with a drill gun, but had a hard counting the windings. Since I am using a printer motor, a DC power supply, and an electronic counter (that switches each time there is a 12V spike which I control with a little feather switch that the bobbin hits each rotation), all of which I have just grabbed from around work.

Have fun with the first build.. It is ALWAYS a learning experience...
SHow pictures of the progress...
