Is it possible to use veneer between the top and the body, to make a sort of binding around the body? I've tought to put 3 veneers (bloodwood, ebony, bloodwood, or Black-Red-Black maple). And if it's possible, where I can find this large veneers? |

You could, but it would not be cost effective. You might just want to rout a channel as you would for binding. Then install your veneer, and level it. Do this before you join the top to the back. |

I do that sort of thing all the time. It can be done very ecenomically from various vendors. Often times, you can subsitute a dyed veneer that will match your color requirement - rather than going with ebony or something like that. Here are a couple of pictures to help show what I mean...one is of a dyed black poplar veneer prior to the top laminate being added, the other is of a maple, mahogany, walnut veneer...Each one is a full layer laminate and did not cost more than a couple 'a dollars... Thanks for the replies! I just came back from my wood store, and I find ¼" x 4" Wengé blanks. I've put it between the spalted maple and the swamp ash, just to see how it looks, and I felt in love. Some I bought some that i'lll joint and but between the top and the body. In fact, it will be a double top, considering the fact that, for the moment, my wengé is thicker than my spalted top lol! Maybe i'll bring that to 1/8 or 3/16. ...And maybe laminate my neck with wengé |
