Ok, here are a few pics of my first attempt. It's a through-neck design. I used a maple/cherry laminate for the neck. The wings are cherry. I don't know how the cherry will do as a tonewood, but it was available, and I didn't want to break the bank on the first one out of the shop. I designed the body shape myself. It is somewhat "PRSish," but not intentionally. My plans are to put a couple of Golden Age overwound PUPs, with a coil tap, and single volume and tone control (I like simple). I'm using a hardtail bridge and Gotoh machine heads. The neck has a 25" scale and it will sit just proud of the top by about 3/8" w/ no angle.

What do you guys think? Let me know what I'm doing wrong.

Cherry is an excellent tonewood. Like maple, it's very bright with lots of attack.

You won`t be disappointed with the combination of woods. My everyday electric is pretty much the same thing, including a hardtail bridge. The sustain is great.
I`ve had bona fide players say that they really like it.
As far as anything wrong, it doesn`t have strings on it yet.

Thanks for the comments. Glad to hear the cherry will not be a disaster. I live in Florida where hardwoods are not easily obtainted. I've been working with local cherry for about 10 years in making furniture. It is a very nice wood to work, but our local cherry has lots of knots, and the trees don't get very large, so it is difficult to get boards over about 6-7" in width that are "clear." That said, I have practically nothing in my tonewood. I am always on the lookout for logs, and I have my own lumber milled for less than a buck a board foot.

I'm gonna put some time in on the build tomorrow, so I will post up some more pics of the progress.
