I would definately consider myself an ameteur when it comes to Luthiery... however that hasn't stopped me. I've been lingering on here for quite a while and been studying out to accomplish building this guitar for nearly a year. So here it all is... Most of my supplys either come from stewmac or lmii, however my top was actually my grandfathers piece he was going to make into a clock, but sadly died before that happened. It is a lightly spalted Myrtlewood, slightly porous but definately workable. The neck is Indian Rosewood with a Peruvian Walnut stripe, and an African Mahogany body. The template is from guitarbuildingtemplates.com and its a McCarty Semi-Hollow. My finger board is Rosewood and you can see my idea for inlay on a yellow page in one of the pictures... its a Maori Double Twisted Jade Pendant... something i've always worn and loved.... it will be made of Recon stone, and the vine White MOP and Gold MOP leaves... Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!!! Enjoy!!! |

I'd suggest modifying the inlay design just a bit so that there's a little curly-q thingie at the normally marked frets. |

Looks good - I really like the spalted top. |

Looking like the build is coming along well. Make sure to post pictures when it is finished! |

Flatsawn shouldn't be that bad as long as it is dried well. Aren't most Fender necks flatsawn? |

hmm... Chris you've pointed out something that absolutely made my heart sink! It never even crossed my mind that it was flatsawn... when I purchased the wood I was under the impression it was flatsawn and that if I glued it and cut it like I did it would be a quartersawn. Crap... didn't think to notice it either. And i've actually modified the inlay pattern a bit... the current seemed a little to weird for me.. this one is simpler |
