I'm working on the next guitar that will have a back-bolt neck. Like these, but my take on the whole thing: Black Mesa guitars, CP Thornton Guitars.

I did this once, but as it was my 1st shot at it, it needs a little refinement. That will come with this build. Specifically, the tenon was too wide.

So here's the basic rundown:
walnut neck
bloodwood fretboard
basswood body w/ maple cap
hardtail bridge, strings through the body
strat-set pups

I have PLENTY of neck blank length to work with. What would be the benefits/drawbacks of making the tenon go all the way under the bridge? As I see it, the strings would then be attached to the same piece of wood on both ends, which could be a very good thing. BUT, this might essentially negate the tonal influence of the body woods. No, not entirely, but a lot.

Thoughts?

I've never done this, but then again, I'm waiting on the weather to warm up so I can put a finish on my first scratchbuilt electric. But it would seem to me this is the same thing that happens with neck-through guitars. I'd expect you'd get about the same results. How much do the body woods affect the tone on those? Anyway, that's my take on it, FWIW.
