I saw a supplier who sells Douglas Fir, Port Orford Cedar, Redwood, etc, etc body blanks...

Anybody worked with it? How about the acoustic qualities... weight, stiffness, etc..?

Thanks!

I don't have any experience with them, but I've wondered about using fir or alaskan yellow cedar for bodies? I have seen a doug fir top on an electric and i'm pretty sure i've seen redwood tops but I don't know how they sound...
I'd be interested to see what more experienced builders have to say.

I've seen cedar and redwood tops, for sure... but never a solid body. I'd may be worry about a too much light body, and then the guitar is neck heavy (cause you can't really make a pine neck... )

Carey Nordstrand has built at least 2 spruce body basses, and absolutely raves about the way they sound...

As far as I am concerned, for the gigging musician, the balance of weight to tone will probably be very good. Probably very smooth, rolled off...
