Post subject:  Stripped neck screws

My brother in laws electric guitar has the neck plate screws stripped out. He brought the guitar to me to repair. I wanted to make sure I was on the right path. I was thinking that I would drill out the existing holes to the size of some hardwood dowels and glue the dowels in, then drill the dowels for the screws.
Thanks in advance,
Devin

I'm assuming you mean the screw holes in the neck heel are stripped. The holes in the body should be large enough for the screws to pass through. There should be no threads in them.
And yes, this is the proper repair for stripped neck screw holes. You'll probably also get recommendations for threaded inserts in the neck heel. This works as well, if installed correctly, but drilling the holes out, glueing in the dowels and redrilling will work just fine. And it has the added advantage of being simple and easy for someone with less experience to do well.

Excellent. Thank you for your response. I already have some dowels, so I'll use them.

Thank you,
Devin
