Well, I almost have these two guys done, and I was so excited about them, I wanted to show them off... Also, very encouraging again is the macassar ebony doublecut - with the binding. Because it was too high risk to put binding on after the fact, I laminated in a sheet of aspen beneath the macassar drop top. Then, very precisely, I carved down to a specific depth in the aspen, giving a beautiful bound look. It really came out well. I cannot wait to get them strung up. Thanks! Stephen |

those are absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy the show. I wish I was home to go see it. Especially since Don Ross is going to be there. Also I am wondering what Mike Greenfield is working on. He is unveiling some sort of special fanned fret guitar designed specially for DADGAD tunings for a Celtic player. |

Beautiful guitars! Really nice job with the "binding". I saw your previous thread with pics of the double cut and I was wondering what the deal was with the neck going all the way under the neck pickup. |

Stephen, Absolutely breathtaking work! I've been almost exclusively a lurker on this forum, but I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing the incredible designs and execution of everyone here. That mac ebony guitar is one of the nicest I've seen here. Are they both your original designs? I also really like the way you inlayed (I think) that chunk of wood into the pickup area of the second guitar. Really interesting and eye-catching. Will it get three P90's? Also, could you post some pictures of the backs of each guitar? Again, excellent stuff. |

Edward, The large tenon is because I use a blended heel on almost all of my guitars - adding both an artisitc flair, but aslo smooth player access to the upper register. Because I remove so much material of the back side of the neck joint, the extra tenon length give me the rigidity to handle the loads... Please see the attached pictures as an (early) example to my neck joint. Gabby, Thanks for the compliments..Both designs are mine, with the doublecut being inspired by a similar bass that I build. The singlecut obviously pays homage to the LP, but has some more modern touches as well - including the horn, and the fact that the body is on 2" thick at the thickest point, but is carved almost 0.5" deep on the face. |

Oh yeah, and the coco frame around the 3 P-90 slots was a decorative accent. I have the pickups in now, and it looks just like I wanted it to - just a little extra standout from a standard pocket. Stephen |
