My guitar has a four wire humbucker at the neck and a Telecaster bridge pickup. The Tele pickup comes in magnificently, with that traditional ear-splitting brightness that we all know and love with the same amount of bassy hotness thrown in, but when I switch to middle position or the neck pickup, suddenly everything is all quiet and dead. I've decided that my wires are all wrong and require some assistance with trying to figure out what goes where. The colors of the four wires are red, green, white, and black. I remember two of these being soldered together when I bought the pickup, but now they're all messed up. In the mean time I'll look through the SD wiring codes and see if I can come up with the one I need. It's a humbucker neck pickup, tele bridge pickup, with a 3 way toggle on the top right side of the body, with one tone and one volume control. |

BTW it's a GFS pickup. Didn't figure there would be so much variation. |

basically the green is one end, the two wires soldered together are for if you want to coil split, then the other wire is the other end. if you have an ohmeter, check the resistance of the pickup. could be anywhere from 7k ohms to 14k ohms, the higher ohms means a hotter pickup. if you can't figure out what's wrong, unsolder wires and see if the pickups work okay, then study the diagram until you figure out what's going wrong. probably a simple mistake in the wiring. |

allan I think he was saying two wire "were soldered together", with the emphasis on were! I would suggest you call GFS. I bet they would help you and might even have a downloadable schematic. Mike |

Thanks guys, yeah I ended up unsoldering those two wires the first time I wired it up and got it sorta right, hence my problem later with it getting disconnected. I looked on other forums and the green wire is indeed the hot wire, the white and red being the pair that are soldered together, and the black wire is ground. Now the pickup wants to blow my house up! I got that one all fixed, but now all of the sudden the bridge pickup sounds a bit thin. Not sure what the problem is, but I'm messing with wires and get the same result. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that it's supposed to sound like that, but I'll check various schematics similar to my setup and see if I went wrong somewhere. |
