I never tried alum, but some claim it has a brighter tone,
on a lap steel, which is a straight thick bar, usually.
I would think the little saddles made of alum might wear out where the string rides on them.
I might be wrong.
I like brass personally because a lot of bells are made of it,
and they sound good.

I just received a Pigtail aluminum wraparound because I am experimenting with bridges at the moment. I have heard good things about these, but the one I just received from Stewmac is something I can not sell on my guitars. The surface area of the bridge was pitted instead of smooth. So were the saddles as well as one of the saddles having a chip taken out of it. Very poor finishing quality on these. Unless I got a bad one. Don't know. It is the lightest wraparound I've got my hands on, but the Tonepros AVT2 is a very close 2nd. I'm going to stick with the Tonepros wraparound.

That sounds like a poor quality casting. There are lots of ways to cast aluminum and it isn't that difficult to obtain a void free part. It's surprising a poorly manufactured product gets all the way to this point.

I'm machining my own bridge design this week from extruded 360 brass. I'll probably throw in a few of them made from 6061-T651 aluminum while I'm at it though I expect that the aluminum will prove too soft in the final analysis.
