Good enough for a middle school science presentation, but completely unpractical for real purposes.

I wanted to reply when I saw this yesterday, but I couldn't think of a way to say what's already been said, and say it in a nice way.
Stick with the solder. There's a reason everyone else does.

Electrolytic Rust Removal !

Give that feller a Kewpie doll! :P
Thats my buddy "Reddy Kilowatt" cooking old 'arn in his backyard Metalurgy lab with a tub of washing soda and a battery charger. Aluminum Foil likes to oxidize just like that red stuff on old tools. Turns into a pretty grey powder.

Hey Calgar,
I want to apologize for saying you crazy.
You're not,
you are just asking questions.
I'm 56 and think people should know certain things.
Sometimes they don't.
You need a very good solder connection at all points.
You can tell it's a good joint if it is shiny.
Look at it with a magnifying glass.
Also, solder ain't glue,
so at least hook the wire around the connection,
but don't wind it around and around so it's hard to take apart later.
I use silver bearing solder, but some say that's not good.
Once again, sorry, and practice your soldering skills.
I use a weller 20 watt iron that works well for me.
Another tip,
heat up the joint first for a bit,
then touch the solder to the intersection of wire, lug, and soldering iron,
and let it flow till filled.
Good luck!
Soldering is fun!
Radio shack solder.
