Hello all,
I have been using Em6000 for the last three builds I have done and like it. But I was looking around the other day and say the system 3 mirror coat product in woodcraft and started to think....yep it is not good when I think too much. Any way what say you on using this stuff for a final finish on electric guitars?

Well, hmm,
I've been going around and around and around with finishes.
What I've found, is, different woods need a different finish.
Lighter woods, maple, like water base finishes.
Darker woods, look like doo-doo under them.
So, what's the question?

No specific question.....just opinions of the merit of the finish. It looks really easy to apply and the finished product looks good to my eyes. Just wanting to ask if anyone has used and the general comments to its pros and cons.

I haven't used ktm 6000, but have used ktm 9.
Good for ligher woods.
Not so good on darker woods.
Ktm9 is easy to use,
and is probably similar to ktm 6000.
Maybe it's better?

EM 6000 is way better at spraying and is a lot harder than KTM-9. That being said, I have never used the System Three Mirror coat, but honestly I don't see why you would really want to on a guitar. If you are going to go away from water based finishes there are plenty of alternatives like polyester that are hard and thin. I would think that the mirror coat (designed for bars and table tops) would be way too thick for an instrument.

The problem using the mirror coat would be the drying time. If you read carefully the instructions, it takes about 48 hours for it to dry. It also must be on a level surface as it is self leveling. At least that's been my experience using the mirror coat on Bar tops. That being the case, putting it on say carve top would amount to runoff I would venture to guess? idunno
