I am ready to do my finishing process but I put my bass together for set up and I just wanted to hear it. It sounds good and plays good to me. This is my first build and hopefully not the last as I really enjoyed it -- However I have no wood shop -- I have been building at friends shops and this has been a 3 year project so far. It is wild how time passes us by. anyway I hope to build more but if i do I plan on getting my own equipment for building. Just wanted to share my pics with the group -- I have gotten great help here when I asked -- It is far from perfect and I am no photographer so sorry for the bad pics -- I am going to do a satin finish on the body with Tru-Oil and a urethane finish on the neck -- If anyone has suggestions or constructive criticisim, I am all ears. Again thanks to all who have helped me out.

Beautiful! I'm a bassist and a basslover. And this one will be a killer.

Dickenbacker?

I'd say the three years you spent building it were worth it. That's a beautiful bass! I spent almost two years on my first, and it didn't turn out as nice as that. Good job!

Dickenbacher -- My Name, Richard Tester, The whole world calles me Dick -- sometimes I sign a post dick, sometime Richard -- I am going to Make up a Logo that says DICK and laser etch it -- kind of like the one pictured above -- My friend said I had to make 2 truss rod covers -- one for "real" and one that said Dickenbacher as a Joke --

What do you think about the Lazer Etched Logo? I am going to Dye The covers a very dark contrasting color I hope the Logos do not become lost in the background.

And I thought I had problems in school with Outman (Outhouse, Oatmeal, etc.). Very nice bass. Nice carving, especially at the cutaways. And I'll bet it plays a whole lot better than anything you could get at the music store.

Keep the cover. I think it's clever. And it adds character. I like that headstock design. I think it's very easy for customized headstocks, especially on basses, to be very ugly, but this one is nice.

Thanks for the kind replies -- I am proud of the headstock, however I must confess that I forgot to say the neck is not mine. I bought the neck from Warmoth. I got the paddle head and I chose the cheap inlays so I could practice doing inlay stuff and someday if I get good at it I'll do some inlay on the fretboard. A friend of mine suggested installing a circular piece in that semi-circle cut out. Some sort of a off the wall thing like placing a quarter in that void but something better than just a quarter part of it would protrude past the end of the headstock. I don't know but it might be cool -- if you can picture what I am saying. If anyone has thoughts on this please let me know.

The wood on the back of the body is poplar -- (long story) -- however I really like that it has that wide stripe up the middle. I am going to dye it dark. I keep thinking a mahogany kind of color. I also added the figured maple veneer to the headstock. I want to somehow dye it so it comes close to matching the color of maple on the body. I guess I'll have to play around till I get it right.

If anyone has any ideas what I should use for dye on any of this wood please tell me. I would love the input

Thanks
Dick

Check out StewMac and LMII for dyes. I think an amber top would look cool. Def dye the headstock at the same time as the body.
