I don't know how many people know of this company, but they are based out of Finland and create some of the most striking electric guitars I have ever seen. They're mainly aimed towards the "metal" crowd but I think they are beautiful.

They tend to have a lot more bells and whistles and equipment that you usually don't see on guitars from the more popular companies. And of course this leads to inspiration for future builds. And believe me, my list of ideas has grown greatly because of this company. They totally have me wanted to go all out on a new build.

Here is one that caught my eye



While I'm quite familiar with body work, the area I do lack knowledge in (meaning I'm quite stupid in this area) is the finish of a guitar. Especially when it comes to something like this. I love the marbelized look that it has and the stripe running on the fretboard. There aren't many details on their site, but how would something like the fretboard stripe be done?

Would it be wise to paint something like this on a fretboard or do some kind of inlay work? since it matches the finish on the guitar so well I'm assuming it is painted on.

Well...the question was...how is this created? The answer is: I can't know unless I can look at it up close. It sure is unique. Their Les Paul model is about $4000. I can only imagine what this custom model costs.

If I had to guess, I'd say that's a 5-piece fingerboard. The blue stripe in the middle is likely the same wood and finish as the body, flanked by strips of some white-ish veneer, which is in turn flanked by what looks like ebony.

Or not. I just went to their web site and looked at some close up pictures of it, and it does look like they've painted the fingerboard. I'm not sure how they did it, as I am pretty amateurish at this stuff.

Hmm... I never thought about that, including the body wood into the fretboard. You're probably right though, just from judging how it looks in the pictures. I wonder how this would affect the feel of the fretboard. I've never played or seen anything like that in person. I guess something like this would be worth a try someday.

But yeah, their custom shop guitars are insane. The amount of time and skill that must go into the finish alone on some of the models amazes me.

The answer is that they copied a Jackson King V (an offshoot of the Randy Rhoads model that was originally released for production)

Their Routa model is a copy of the Randy Rhoads...both have similar head stocks to the Jackson line...

so to me this is nothing original..and of course they are also copying the shark fin inlays in one of their pictures..

I would guess the fretboard is faux turquoise material sides with ebony and the neck is (again a copy) through the body with the wings attached as in the originals (made of alder)

I am going to have to amend my thoughts on this subject...

the guitar shown in the image above is a hybrid of copying a Jackson King V and the style of some other luthier who I cannot recall...specifically the concept of those routed hooks and such...

there are other images that are clearly rips of the King V and Randy Rhoads models though....
