Hallo everybody,
This is my first post here.
Since I'm about to launch my first build soon I've been reading alot of the threads here and enjoying them alot.
Anyway, I going for a custom design.
I'm looking for a fat sustainfull tone so it's probably gonna be a H-H mahagony body and neck, maple top and a rosewood fingerboard.
However I'm not sure about the bridge.
I thought about going with the Hipshot Baby Grand bridge but haven't got much expirience with it.
Also is there a possibily to get a bridge with the same sound charitaristics but has a tremolo as well ?
I'm open for suggenstions and love to hear some input from some expirienst luthiers.

And another thing.
I love the maple fingerboard sound on S-S-S stratlike guitars (for example - A Strat :P).
How would it blend with a HH dense wood ?
Seems to me it's not meant to be but that's just in theory.

For those who aren't familiar with it : The Hipshot Baby Grand

Hi.
Welcome.
I think that a heavy guitar is best for sustain.
I also think that a hardtail bridge is best for sustain.
So, I think that a whammy setup wouldn't be good for sustain.
It's a trade off, IMO.
You could get a sustain pedal.
I used the words "sustain",
and "I think", a lot here.
I do like the look of that bridge!

Thanks for the replies.
I thought it's probably a trade off.
I don't mind not having a whammy option that much.
About the woods, I thought of using the same woods as an LP and maybe change it to a maple neck.

A while back I built a mahogany HH tele with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard. I used Gibson buckers '57 in the neck and 498T in the bridge. Its a string through so it has wicked sustain and tone. To my ear it sounds a lot lick an Les Paul w/ the comfort and feel of a Tele.

I also just put a BladeRunner (http://www.super-vee.com) on a road worn strat project and you get a noticebly thicker/fatter tone w/ it so you might consider it if you want a trem w/ a vintage vibe.

I'll see if I can get a pic on the web somewhere if you wanna see it.
