Hi Herry, Depending on the style of pickup, I rout the cavities 3/4"to 1" deep. I set the top of my pickups about 1/8" below the strings which is close to the same hight as the top of the fretboard. Do a google search on Lollar Pickups. Jason Lollar has a nice video on how to set pickup hight on a finished insturment. Steve |

Lay it out on paper. The pickups should be as close to the strings as possible, without affecting the strings vibrating. |

thank's Alan & Steven I tried this afternoon to rout the cavity and the deep is 19 mm (from the book of Martin Koch) without measurement the pick up, so I think that too deep... after reading the instructions from you... because the top flush with the body, so it is still far from the fretboard. thank's, I'll hoard cavity hole to make higher the pickup... thank's herry |

Hey Herry, The other thing that you have to remember is that you really cannot route a cavity 'too deep'. I say this tongue in cheek because obviously you could make some gross mistake here, but depending on the pickup - you either mount it on a thick piece of foam that can compress therefore supporting the pickup (P-90's, single coils inset, etc...) or the pickup will be suspended above the hole as it is mounted to a pickup ring - as in the case of most humbucker style pups...
