Nice! I wonder if there is some kind of ball or wheel you can attach to the part that moves over the template.

so far it really doesnt seem necessary, their is an adjustable weight on the opposite side so that the router and stylus balance perfectly. The only preasure from the stylus on the template is caused be the operater and is pretty minimal. Plus I would need to have matching bit.

today was a good day. I started working on this duplicater last spring i think and have just now gotten around to finishing it up. Its really not as complete as I would like, but it does its job fairly well. Since it was constructed all out free/recycled parts and machinery, I didnt have everything i needed to make it as nice as I would like, but hopefully I can make some improvements in the future. The biggest improvement would be to upgrade to two linear bearings per side rail instead of just one. There is a little bit of play in the cross rail, and the extra linear bearings would eliminate that I think. The little router is pretty junky, but its getting the job done for now, I'll upgrade it in the future, hopefully to one with a half inch collet. By the end of the day I had it in working condition and with a little over a half hour before I had to leave for work I was able to get an entire carve roughed out . Gone are the days spending 8 hours or more to rough out a carve. Granted I still leaves a good amount of refining to do, but the bulk of the work is done, and all thats left to do by hand is the fun part. Anyway just thought I would share my crazy concoction with all you guys. I really didnt have to spend that much time making, and for the amount of time it will save carving I would say its well worth it. Cost was very minimal for me becuase pretty much everything except for the OSB was free, but i would imiagine even if had had to buy everything you could still make it for a few hundred dollars. I only asked 'cuz the one at the gibson Custom Shop had a wheel on theirs, I thought it was cool. A homemade duplicator's even cooler!

Yes, it's important for accuracy that the bit & the sylus be the same profile. I use a rounded 1/2" dowel for the stylus & a 1/2" core box bit.
