I routed the neck pocket width of my first build about .035 to large at the base of the heel. Is there a preferred method to alleviate this? And, (I think) I would like to fill the old screw holes in this neck, and drill new ones. Is there also a preferred method to do this as well, or is there a better alternative? Thanks- |

Thanks- Many bolt-on neck pockets don't have sides, like some B. C. Rich guitars. Doesn't really matter too much if it's a bolt-on. Now the tighter the better I'd imagine, but you should be fine. Why do you want to fill the holes? Do the screws not tighten in them? If you really think you need to you can get some scrap of the same or similar wood and round out some splines to fill the holes. If you can find thin dowels that are the right size that may be more consistent, but I've made some out of cocobolo to fill/redrill some holes. Just dab some super glue or elmers on them and tap em in with a wooden hammer. |

With a bolt on neck it doesn't matter that much about the fit. Too tight and it's hard to get the neck in or out after finishing. Got pics? is it the side cut? You could wrap the pickguard around the neck, if yer gonna make one. If not, just fit and glue some strips of wood on the sides of the pocket, and re-route. Make a 1 to 1 jig out of 1/4" material, fit that to the neck, with a gap for finish, get a pattern bit with a bearing on top, and route away! I was feeling sorry for you because nobody piped in... |
