I'm thinking of going for an Asswood body - this tree is in a park near my house - I have a 17" bandsaw I can cut it with, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to dry the wood without a kiln?

That's a burl so it's going to have all sorts of funky internal stresses that will try to make it self destruct during drying. It may also have some fantastic grain.

I've got some ideas on how to try to dry it but no actual experience with drying burls so I'll keep my mouth shut.

The principle in my elementry school had a paddle in his office with the words, "heat for the seat" written on it.

Ya....guitars 5-32 are going to be built in the prison woodshop....where they will stick him for cutting down a tree in the park.

I think a guitar built from that tree would have way too much bottom end for most people's taste!

That tree is too perfect to cut up. It should be put on display as is just to annoy the neighbors

I'm glad Tony finally was able to "CRACK" a joke about it. Good to see it caused a couple (vertical) smiles. OK, I'll stop now

I didn't want to make Virgil the butt of my joke! That could have made me seem like an a$$. After all, he has a build going called "wide ride" which could be a euphemism for a large buttocks. And really, that tree has a striking resemblance to something I have seen before.
