I bought m first scrapers a few days ago. I purchased the rectangular and mini rectangular scrapers and Ive been using them all the time. I LOVE these things and they are my new favorite tool :D I was initially nervous about sharpening it but its super easy do. I plan to buy the rest of the scrapers that stewmac offers next time I make a purchase from them. buy'em! [:Y:]

+1

Scrapers are excellent. My favorites right now remain the Lie Nielsen ones. Good steel, keep a nice edge, easily honed and tuned up, and work that little bit better than the cheaper generic ones I've used in the past (edge holding in particular).

I like these scrapers that Lee Valley sells.

If you have the money buy em!
However I bought a couple regular hardware store handsaws made of good quality steel and cut out a pile of different shape scrapers from them with an angle grinder with a cutting wheel attachment...
Then squared/shaped them up with files/sander and they have been as decent as any of the 2cherry scrapers I already had...
I file and burnish them - nice transparent curls
A tip for the cheap woodworkers out there.... or if you dont have a well equipped handtool store in your area, like me.
Just take care and not heat them too much (have a tub of water and a towel nearby) if using a power sander to shape/square them.
Cheers

If you want the best scraper money can buy, put together a group buy on the ones that Al Carruth has made. Awesome scrapers.
