I have a question about refretting a Fender Telecaster with maple fingerboard: Do I refinish the fretboard before or after installing the frets? I heard people do it both ways but I was thinking it would be easier to refinish after installing the frets so that fret installation doesn't crack the finish...

any comment?

I've done it both ways, but I preferred finishing it after refretting.

I prefer to refinish the board before fretting. Finish is easier to sand and buff, plus I hate scraping finish off frets. As long as you chamfer the top of the slot cracking should not be a problem. Of course the challenge here is keeping finish out of he slots.

What year is the guitar?

I haven't checked, will see once I take the neck off. It's not vintage though, definitely made by FMIC.
