This one isn’t actually quite finished. I have to get some knobs for the pots, make the control cavity covers, fix a chip on the headstock, and some other finishing touches. But it’s playable. On the first LP, I used pickups that had Alnico 5 magnets in them. This one has Alnico 2. I’m somewhat new to electrics, so I wasn’t sure what the difference would be. Now that I’ve played them both, I know. I’d describe the difference as the Alnico 2 pickups as sounding “cleaner”. I like them both though. All the wood for this guitar (except for the ebony fretboard and headstock veneer) came from Menards. The top is curly maple, the body and neck are mahogany. The binding is cream ABS. I'll take some better pics when it's all together. |

Beautiful sunburst - very well done! And maybe it's just me, but would cream colored p/u rings look nicer? |

Nice! Be careful, you may get into a lawsuit with Gibson over the headstock, but this will likely increase the value of your guitar in the long run, though. |

Beautiful work Phillip. I'm working on my first LP build. Is that the thick cream colored binding from Stew Mac? Did you have much trouble fitting it to the cutaway? I've done mine twice now & I'm not entirely satisfied. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Kevin Looker |

Not just you, those were my thoughts exactly, gorgeous burst and finish, but the pup rings look out of place to me. Time to upgrade to wood IMO. Beautiful like all of your work. Rob |

Thanks, fellas! The black pup rings are temporary until the cream ones come in. I just couldn't wait to string it up. klooker wrote: Beautiful work Phillip. I'm working on my first LP build. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Kevin Looker Bending around the horn went fairly well. I used a propane torch to (carefully!) soften it. My problem there is that my router setup doesn't like the "hump" there, so it have to use hand tools in that area. Also, I used scraps of binding dissolved in acetone to fill in gaps. |

I've just finished my first LP, so I can really appreciate yours. All the little touches are very nice and the worksmanship looks flawless. Love the burst, like others I'm not crazy about the pup rings but that may change when I see the knobs. Would love to hear clips of the different pickups - I used Parson Streets on mine, but put an Alnico 5 at the neck (which I really like) and a 2 at the bridge (which I don't care for as much). I'm a little bit interested in the acoustic 12 string - looks like a fairly small body, the saddle doesn't seem to have a lot of compensation - not by any chance ladder braced is it? |

This morning I got my Stew Mac order in, so I put on the rest of the hardware: Now I just have to make the cavity covers, and fix the headstock... |
