I was just wandering through eBay and found some nice guitar decal stickers etc and was wondering; would it be better to use them under the finish or on top of the hardened laquer? |

I use decals for my logo and I apply them first, then lacquer. I use a lot of coats of lacquer so that when I level sand, the finish can be sanded flat like glass. Here is a pic, sorry that it is big: |

I recently saw Foo Fighters here in Perth, Western Australia, and I kept the wrist-band from the night which has the Fooies brand with the two overlapped F's, as well as the venue and date stamped on it. It seems to be made of some sort of glossy paper material. Do you think it would survive under laquer like a decal would? I would like to use this on my next guitar. as a reminder of the best concert I ever saw... |

One technique which is fairly cheap and easy is to print your logo on transparency paper and glue that where you want it. Then finish over it. You definitely want the logo under the finish if you want it to stay there. I had somebody make me a custom stamp and I've also considered a branding iron. Or you can get real fancy and do an inlaid logo. |

I would most likely also do it as inlay and rout a pocket just a few thousandths deeper than the band material. CA the band into the pocket, keeping it flat may be difficult. And then fill it in the rest of the way with either more CA or SB-112. |

Thanks guys, you've provided me with some food for thought. I'm making a lap steel soon out of Western Australian Jarrah for a friend who loves Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". I was thinking of trying the prism symbol as an inlay for him. We'll see. Might be punching above my weight at this point... |
