Hi all. I've been lurking around here for a while and thought I would post my latest build, a telecaster copy made from pecky cypress. The body is cut from a single piece of cypress that was 1 7/8" thick by 16" wide. It had years of dust and dirt on it that stained all the exposed peckies so they turned black when hit with finish. There is not a lot of solid wood so I kept the routing to a minimum using a single coil sized humbucker, a concentric pot for volume and tone, and a mini switch to split the coils. There wasn't enough wood at the traditional jack location so I used an end pin jack. The rough sawn slab was cut from the center of the tree so there is more wood down the center. It also has a top loading bridge cause I wasn't sure what was inside the slab, string through ferrules might not have worked. The whole thing weighs less than 6 lbs. My grandson calls it the tiger guitar. More pics here http://photobucket.com/peckytele |

As a personal preference I don't build with "rotten" wood. That being said.......That does look really cool! How does it sound? Does it feel balanced when playing or is it neck heavy? |

Wood that has been eaten by fungus is rotten in my book.....And yes that includes spalted Maple. |
