I wasn't sure which category to post this in so hopfully I have this right. Solid Body Lap Steel build. My first build ever. I'm doing it like a down sized Gibson Explorer. I'm learning as I go along. A facebook friend told me about this wonderfull forum. I have studied every post so far. I am using poplar for the body and Zebra wood for the fret board. I have a fret saw and jig to slot the frets but have been nervous about doing that part. So I will probably just jump in in a few days and get it over with. I have enough Zebra to do 2 boards if I mess it up. I am doing a sister build behind it of a down sized Telecaster lap steel. My goal is to build 3 or 4 mostly for practice. then jump in and build a solid body electric after I develope a few skills. Any input would be great. The scale will be 22.5 inch. |

BTW. My shop is in my kitchen. Except my band saw and drill press is in my barn. The only problem My barn is 5 miles from My house so thats why most of my build will be in my house. |

A lap steel was my first build. A friend gave me a swampash board and this is what really got me into building guitars. The LEDs come on when it's plugged in. I miss measured the scale length and took a few strings before I figured out what happened LOL. And it sounds good! Well I'm biased. I really like your design choice and hope it's a great time for you. |

Thank you. I love the leds. Is swamp ash as hard as regular ash. I has a coupe guitar made from swamp ash. Very light and resonates like a dream. I am at a stand still untill I buy tuners. short on cash. So next week. I had enough poplar to start another build so I made a template for a telecaster down sized. And have it drawn out on the plank. I will cut it out today. |
