Post subject: | Bridge question |
I posted here in December about building a guitar body out of walnut. Trying to decide what type of bridge to go with. It will be a Les Paul shape, 2 hum buckers, 25.5" scale maple/rosewood neck. I play with heavy gauge strings - .012 to .054 I was thinking a Nashville Tune-o-matic bridge with strings through the body. Do you foresee any problems with this? Is it a good choice? I know there is a debate between ABR type bridges and nashvilles as far as tone. The ABRs scare me because I don't like the idea of that relatively thin post going directly into the body. I like that there is more room for adjustment on the nashville style bridges. Any brand names you'd recommend? I'm willing to spend some money for quality. Open to suggestions. Thank you, Clay |

I replaced an ABR with a Nashville on a Gibson Les Paul in order to get the intonation set correctly. The Nashville does have more saddle wiggle room. I have veered away from tune-o-matic bridges for the simple fact that I always have problems getting the bushing hole spacings exact. I know it's just me, but I prefer wrap-around type bridges because they are easy to install and I perceive an increased sustain over tune-o-matic. I bought a Schaller roller wrap-around bridge for a current build. It has saddle adjustment up/down side/side as well as intonation travel. I'm not sure it would be tall enough for a LP. Just my preferences. |

I recently installed some roller bridge, Tune-o-matic style, and it worked great, strings through body gives extra sustain, i like it, as tone enhacment and are dang cool . In my opinion, ABR has less advantages than hits. I have seen bended post, wormed wood on post, intonation problems... doesn't worth. Cheers! |

I bought the Schaller Hannes bridge, it looks very comfy to play palm muted notes. |

I like the TonePros AVT-II bridge. It's a wrap around one piece style. |
