I like that top. Did you buy that neck pre-built and fretted or did you do it on your own? |

Man.... I just cannot get with buckeye. It looks like black & white vomit. |

the neck is from Carvin. Buckeye is an acquired taste , like all burls . some love it some think it's nasty .. I'll reserve judgement until it is finished. |

The beauty is in the ugly of it. It looks like Satan made it. It makes a mean looking guitar. That's why I like it. Almost a vibe of surrealism. |

Is it just me or does that burl have a face of a wild boar/hog in the lower bout? Either pretty cool |

Sometimes I think about buying pre-made necks, but honestly I can make my own for about $80 total all wood truss rod and frets included. I also have a custom scale length so that throws another hitch in that idea. I like the burl. I think this will be a cool guitar, keep us updated! |

Rock on, Jimmy! The stones are going to look cool in the top, although it sound's like a difficult task. I like the Buckeye. I build using local trees and like the weird colors and grain patterns. |

I love me some burl. Doesn't matter what kind. I think of how it formed instead of just growing straight and it amazes me. Then you look at it and BOOM! It is just beautiful. Can't get enough of it. |

I cut a nice 1/2" set of Claro walnut for the back , this will cover the full width with a neck pocket routed in. Lacewood dings so easy I though having it in the center layer made more sense , great lookin side grain and light airy resonant middle . The hard rock maple/ ebony neck and stiff walnut back should be a good "frame "for punch as well. |

Cleaned up the outline , and as the buckeye top is so fragile I opted for a honeycombed approach to core . |

Huh? I don't get the honeycomb. No disrespect James, just curious. Dan |

Buckeye is very soft . With a normal open chamber there would be an insufficient amount of structural support for the top. This is an experiment , the weight reduction is minor , however the reduced material density may increase the "open" sound to a small degree , we shall see if the tone "blooms" at all when I've finished . I've made several semi -hollow , chambered and solids so this should be interesting to see if there is any effect. |

I had enough time this weekend to join the back and trim and sand it . 1/2" feathered crotch claro walnut . There is a reason behind the woods chosen .. I built a claro walnut guitar , the first of this series it is "Earth" , this one will represent the ocean with the blue top(water) the lacewood (sand) and walnut back ( earth's core) . The next up will be a 'Sky " model which will have a white to deep blue, top to bottom trans finish over quilted maple . Then "Fire" will follow .... |

Looking great! I can imagine "Sky" and can't wait to see "Fire". Thanks for posting progress pictures! Dan |

Finally got time to glue the top on and shape it a bit, and patch the hole in the upper bout .. on to the inlay |

Patched the holes in the upper bouts and did a blue tint to add a little zing |
