Just finished a video series with a breakdown of variations in volume and tone control wiring, trying to clarify and demystify the changes affected by some of the more common wiring changes. Here they are - hope they offer some useful insight to anyone interested.

Guitar Electronics 1 - Potentiometer Values

Guitar Electronics 2 - Tone Controls

Guitar Electronics 3 - Volume Control

Guitar Electronics 4 - Treble Bleed

Guitar Electronics 5 - Output Loading / 50's wiring

Guitar Electronics 6 - Independent vs Master Volume

Nothing groundbreaking or terribly advanced, but I tried to present everything in a way that could be clear enough for the beginner enthusiast, and still interesting to the more experienced.

I did not have a chance to see these until this morning and they are very well done!

By the way that's my bench David is at and my recently acquired Jimi Hendrix US Postage stamp pack on the wall.... :D

Thanks for putting these together David! [:Y:]

Good stuff there, David and Hesh.
I learned most of it debugging my past wiring failures.
Thanks for demystifying wiring in a lab environment and placing this info in one easy-to-find spot.
You fellers are the best!

Thanks Dan! I tried as best I could (with a cold and doped up on cold medicines) to make this series a rather comprehensive resource and demonstration. As said before there is nothing new or groundbreaking, but I've not seen another resource available which offered controlled, real time comparisons between different values, tapers, and wiring arrangements like this.

By combining the graphic representation with generated signals followed by applied use in playing, I hope I was able offer a context and perspective which could be of value even to the most experienced techs. The switching box I made is something of a luxury for demonstrating all these comparative differences, and I wanted to share the insight it could offer with others not quite crazy enough to build such a contraption. Even after a few decades of wiring guitars, it offered me a few new glimpses to both degree and direction of changes in a way I had not been able to see as clearly before.

I'm sure I'll be doing a follow up at some point (already getting requests to demonstrate arrangements not presented in these videos), so if there's anything I missed that you'd like to see, by all means let me know.

Hi David, Hope all is well with you. These are really good videos, thanks so much! Great playing too.
I need to learn a lot about electrics, I've hardly touched 'em. I've got to source an output jack and install it in my Danelectro soon.

Wow, David, thank you. I am an electrical engineer by training and understand the theory, but this makes it very clear and easy to actually hear the effects and to explain to others. I'll keep this one bookmarked for sure.

Thanks very much everyone. Glad to hear it the work holds value to some.

Freeman - I am glad to see this get approval from one more educated than myself on the underlying workings. I understand the effects quite well from experience, and wanted to present them in a tangible way (both in visual and audio context), but my theory side is not nearly as strong. I do hope there weren't any glaring errors that popped out to you in the descriptions of underlying theory. :D

David, I haven't watched all of them yet but there was nothing that jumped out at me. Frankly I think the explanations were spot on.

David, as a fairly new builder and a player that never really bothered learning about the stuff behind the cavity cover, I'd like to thank you for making these video's. It's really nice to have all of this information in one place and have side by side comparisons of changing configurations. The video's are well thought out, follow a natural progression and are organized in an easy to follow, easy to understand way. These are going to be my go to video's selecting config's and parts. Thanks a lot!
