Post subject:  Preferred Truss Rod Type for an Electric Guitar? CF?

I'm embarking on the design stages of my first electric guitar(s), and am wondering what type of truss rod you electric guys prefer in your necks, and if you like to use carbon fiber in them as well.

All the plans I'm finding for the older Tele's and Strat's show the old curved rods, but I'm wondering if I can substitute a modern double-action rod in its place...

Thanks,

Don

Yes, you can use the Blanchard style rod. CF is overkill unless you are using some pretty floppy neck wood, or very small necks.

Rodger, I'll be using some crazy birdseye maple, and just didn't know how that figure would affect the stability of the wood...

I've used a lot of curly maple for necks, only one had CF. It was too stiff, I could barely get any relief with strings to pitch even using the truss rod. The rod actually works much better by itself. I've never used birdseye for a neck, but I think it will be fine without CF. I do have a dred with birdseye back and sides under construction.
The CF that I have will be used on bass necks, where it will make a difference.
