I got a plan that says 1". It scales to 2". One Internet source shows 1-3/4". What size should I use? |

1 3/4" to 2" is a pretty common range. 1" is crazy. Maybe your plan gave the radius instead of the diameter |

I was given a calculation for Helmholz Resonance by Christophe Mineau based on the volume of the instrument . soundbox volume = V calculate v/4.188 and take the cube root ,then divide by 4= radius of the soundhole. The original was done on violins and the correction for guitar frequencies is 17% (my guess is bigger). The calculation may be too much work for this project but knowing that there is a calculation may be useful on new (weird) future projects. good luck Bob |

see if this comes through clearly. It is about everything you might need regarding measures. building a good one is up to you. Attachment: uke_comparison_photo.JPG

A plan specifying a 1-inch soundhole for a soprano uke would make me suspicious of all other dimensions shown on that plan. Martin sopranos have a 1.75-inch soundhole. It seems to have worked for them. |
