Hi folks, I haven't been around here much for a while, but I'm just finishing up a batch of four new ukes of a design I've dubbed the "Brave New Uke", and I thought I'd show you what I've been up to. Here's one of them, a tenor scale uke with a low G. Curly maple and Honduras rosewood (with custom Honduras rosewood tuner buttons made by Burton LeGeyt). I'm very pleased with the way all of these are coming out. Rather than posting more pics here, I'll give you a link to where the photo album is on my facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... 583&type=1 I hope enjoy seeing this! Todd |

Thanks, Jim! I'll try to get a recording of at least one of these before they get shipped. In the meantime, if you want, you can go to my soundcloud page and listen to samples of an earlier one. That one has a concert scale and is made of holly and ebony. The sound of these new ones is somewhat brighter and has more sustain, owing primarily to the fact that I added some light bracing to the soundboards. The one you can hear on soundcloud has no bracing (bracing is not needed for structural stability, since the design of the bridge and tailstock results in virtually zero stress on the top from string tension). https://soundcloud.com/todd-rose (Scroll down a ways on the page to get to the uke recordings.) |
