I have been gathering materials and equipment to bend my first sides. I have my mahogany thinned and ready to go. As I was reviewing the YouTube video on bending ukulele sides I realized I don’t have my springs steal. Is this something I can get it Home Depot or locally? Looks like StewMac has some but it’s $25 for 24"x4" piece. Seems a little pricy Thanks |

You can use aluminum flashing instead of the spring steel. I've used it for bending about ten sets of guitar sides so far. One of these days I'll get some steel slats from John Hall. |

Yeah, but get a narrower roll, 6" to 10". |

I'm in the same boat with CarlD. I got some 6" aluminum flashing from the local hardware store to get started. I never got around to ordering "proper" slats. I'm sure they would be better, but I'm getting by okay without them. |

This is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/010-Thick-Stainless-Steel-Stock/dp/B006D1JQT6/ref=sr_1_4?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1548347276&sr=1-4&refinements=p_4%3AShop+Aid%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A5485702011 . But wow, prices have more than tripled in ten years. This stuff is stiff, and doesn't deform or deflect. It should last me forever . |

At 50" length per roll you would need to get two rolls and cut them down to get two slats? |
