Hello fellow woodworkers! This is my first post, so please bear with me. I'll take any help I can with this forum stuff.

Recently finished my 11th guitar: A classical made for myself. Elevated fingerboard, sound port, and made of Western Red Cedar, Wenge, Padauk, Bocote, and Zerbrawood. I'll be taking good pics of the finished project tomorrow, so check back in a day or two to see it!

Hey munen,

I've used wenge for a few guitars now- mainly fingerboards. Its a decent hardwood. Open pored, and pretty brittle. Can't be any harder to hand plane than E. I. Rosewood. I had to go across the grain with the sides. Broke the first one b/c I left it too thin before bending. The guitar sounds great though- extremely clear!

One word of advice- watch for splinters! A few days after scraping day, I noticed about 20 miniature splinters in both my hands- I didn't even notice.

It took the finish well, but I should have pore filled. I didn't want to keep spraying as I wanted a thin finish. Well, the pores show through in some spots- looks bad. If I fix one thing on this guitar that'd be it.

Wenge is great because it's pretty cheap and available where I live. Let me know how it works out.
