Well I'm a little late at starting with the postings, but I've been busy on my build. I wanted to have a good head start before I started posting, so here I go......

About a year ago I had started an acoustic lap steel. That started as an electric in my mind but evolved to acoustic...I guess acoustics are just in my blood :D . I can't seem to find a picture of it now, but I'll post one when I'm back on my computer.

Anyway, the travel guitar is based on the same body design and scale length, with a couple differences. This won't have a spanish heel neck joint (I haven't figured out what I'm going to do for a neck joint yet) and of course the neck won't be square, and probably no slotted headstock either.

The design is original, but drawn from the smaller bodied Martin's.
Lower bout: 12 1/4
Upperbout: 9 1/4
Body Length: 16 1/8
Scale Length: 22.5
Top: Engelmann Spruce
Back and Sides: Black Walnut (from Mike here on the forum...Thanks Mike! [:Y:]
Neck: Laminated Walnut/Cherry/Maple
Bracing Adirondack Spruce
Bridge Plate: Maple

Cost:
Back and sides were 10 bucks and I bought another set at the same time so shipping was free!
Top (Had bought 10 tops for 80 bucks awhile back so this one cost me 8 bucks!)
Neck woods were probably around 15-20 bucks total
So far I think I'll be ok keeping this one under budget!

I just got my top finished up today, and finished the back a few weeks ago...Here's a few shots of progress up until now.

Well, got the neck blank all glued up last night. About a year ago I made a couple gluing boards. I took 3 long strips of 3/4 plywood, and screwed some laminate flooring down to them, back side up. The flooring is teflon-ish and makes glue clean up a breeze! This is the first time I've really got to use all three. They come in useful in a lot of applications. Also, I had just refurbished a couple of old stanley planes making the squaring up the faces a joy.
