I have this idea of doing a build from all North American woods, so I decided to make some persimmon bridges to start. I ran across this little guy really cheap because it had a broken bridge and a couple of hairline cracks. . . so I got my chance to try it. It is from the 1930's and the neck angle was still good. If I ever decide to part with it, I'll make an ebony bridge for it, but I kind of like the look of persimmon. I think it would look nice with a matching fingerboard (this one is in good shape though, so no need to do it here) I strung it up with DR Extra Lights and it really sounds great. |

Thanks Hesh. The one in that link is a "full dress'er". Nice! This one is much like a 00-18, 14 1/8" lower bout. The bridge spacing is ~ 2.5" and the nut is 1 7/8". |

It looks good. Did you finish the bridge with anything? I like the light color of it but it is missing a match somewhere else on the guitar. |

Michiyuki, I wiped on just a little nitro to seal it. The only shellac I have mixed up right now is garnet, and I wanted to keep a stark white look, so I held off on that. Next string change I'll switch to a black saddle to give it a full reverse look. I agree with you, on the addition of complementary color. I'll make an ebony bridge for it too, and switch it back at some point. This was a bit of a science project to get my feet wet with persimmon, so far so good. I made another persimmon bridge and stained it black, it looks pretty good too. I would like do a build with a white persimmon bridge and matching fingerboard, with black inlay, and black pins and saddle. It is a little folk-artsie - but I like it. I learned a lot doing it  . This one was an old Washburn with a broken neck, so I decided to have some fun experimenting with the fingerboard. The design was a copy of a wallpaper stencil. The black would stand out more on a lighter FB.

If it had a match somewhere else on the guitar I think it would be spot on. I like the lighter woods for some reason. Just a personal preference. |

Reckon it would look nicer and also be easier to dye/ebonize the bridge than glue a lighter coloured headstock. It sure looks like a replacement bridge much later than the guitar. Steve |

I like the look of burnt persimmon as shown on the deer grunt on the left side of this pic. Some areas are burnt more than others on this call (intentionally).

I believe this was burnished while spinning in a lathe. |
