Hello everybody this is my first post just joined today! tons of questions I think I'll start with this. Can someone help me identify the year of this Gibson SG? 52035. If I tell you how much I payed for this you'd all Hate me (:

I'll say mid -70's.

And I've had two given to me, so you can't get cheaper than that. No hate required or justified.

Yep number says 62. One pickup looks like it may be an original PAF, the other with the vinyl covered wire is most likely an early 70's replacement. Does the pickup with the braided lead have a patent sticker on the back?

I think " You just ruined it...congrats" is not helpful to this member, whether the comment is accurate or not. Let's try to help him move on from here. And if any of us think he should be more conservative in his approach, let's explain our reasoning. THAT would be helpful.

I tend to think the opposite... it's his guitar, he can do with it as he likes. If resale value wasn't important and he wanted a new looking SG that's actually 50 years old he would now have exactly what he wants. Besides, we didn't see the guitar before he stripped it... maybe the previous owner customized it with a dozen shades of Krylon spray paint.

All true, but from the standpoint of "restoration", it's lost. It is a re-finish. How good of a job depends on the individual's skill...
Don't believe I see where HE stripped it. May have been bought that way. Who knows.

Love the feedback I actually thought nobody responded since I didn't get notifications but I can see this forum is going to be VERY helpfull! Haha I would never strip off the paint of a vintage finish this was bought like this for $400 it was previously repaired on the headstock and body. Only thing I've done is re cut a crown inlay on my cnc and install it (old one was cracked) next is to refret it. Looking forward to seeing the finished product . As for Value , That is Subjective at best . Restored or Refinished there is a Market on both sides of the isle . Nice find .

Is the fretboard original? It looks pretty clean with no wear.

Dzsmith those were original but we're worn out. I took the frets out and reradius the fingerboard (had a bit of a ramp on the bottom) looks brand new and the inlay looms clean. I'll post some new pics this week. I'm planning on installing jescar jumbos

i jumped the gun and assumed OP sanded it down. he didn't. apologies. we all survived nonetheless.
