I then tried to research gluten glue on line and all I could come up with is wallpaper paste. Does anyone want to speculate on how reversible the gluten glue is and how to remove the spruce top of a violin with gluten glue? I want to buy one of the violins from Yita Music Shop in Shanghai China to develop my plate tuning skills and need to remove the top. I went looking for a used violin in Minneapolis a week ago for $400 or less, but was disappointed. Most of these violins were from Romania. Since I want to remove the spruce top, I wanted an instrument with real purfling, the inlay into the wood around the edge of the violin that gives added strength to the spruce top. The Minneapolis violins all had painted purfling while Yita violins have real purfling. |

Check around Minneapolis for a place that rents violins. Chances are they'd have student instruments that are being retired from the fleet because they are no longer cost-effective to keep in service. Tell 'em exactly what you're doing and precisely what you need - maybe they'll fix you up with something nice AND cheap. Don't need a bow or case? Don't mind missing parts? OK to have cracks? Tell 'em so. . . |

Gluten is latin for glue. I would assume but maybe not since we are talking about the Chinese that they use hide for their violins. It is the accepted glue in the violin making world. As for cheap violins check out ebay. look for some of the German made violins from the 70's and so. Real purfling on a lot of them. |
