I have a fretless 5-string Fender bass coming in for a setup and new strings (old ones are about 17 years old he says). The client has heard that he needs to be careful which strings he chooses because the strings go through the body. I haven't heard this one before, and none of the other bass owners I did work for had any issues, but since I'm not a bass player I figured I'd ask if this is a real issue or just another BS internet guitar rumor. My client was wondering the same thing.

Also, the client likes D'Addario strings - any recommendations for fretless bass from that manufacturer? Looks like the choices are a Chrome Flatwound or a Nylon Tapewound.

Thanks!

No rumor. Some strings are too short to go through the body and reach the D and G strings.

Ah, that makes sense. I already figured he would need a long scale set.
