After a disaster with Duplicolor on a neck that wouldn't cure, I stripped this project and got a can of white and some clear 2K from 66autocolor (http://www.66autocolor.com/). Shooting at high 80s/low 90s resulted in wait times of 25-30 minutes between coats. Stopped and waited for it to cool off later in the day. With temps closer to 80 it would quit stringing at 15 minutes. Waited a day, wet sanded and shot the clear in the morning. It was ready to shoot at 12-15 minute intervals. Waited a day for it to cure, then leveled and buffed it.

I couldn't seem to get the right distance to prevent orange peel with the white. The clear went better but still needed leveling.

I posted shots of my temporary spray booth before. Without a proper compressor/gun this seemed like the best option for me. From the standpoint of time, this was great. And the clear didn't yellow the white, big plus!

The color said the can was only good for 12 hours. 24 hours later I pulled the can out of the trash, shook it for the 2 minutes required before shooting a coat. Sprayed it into the trash can and it shot just fine. The clear is supposed to be good for 48 hours.

So for us amateurs, this is a good quick turn around solution.

Despite Al's problems with the finish, he did a GREAT job converting the Les Paul peghead over to the Firebird version. I've seen this in the flesh, and it's a STUNNER. Thumbs up, Al - you da man!

Looks great from here. I've never seen tuners like that what are they?

Those are Gotoh "Banjo" tuners. This is what came on a number of the Firebirds. This allows the strings to come up straight out of the nut to the tuners. Using conventional tuners would move them to the side and result in the strings bending as soon as they came out of the nut.
