I often have Chris Pile's advice running through my head. "Did you change the string? It's literally the cheapest thing on the guitar". But you know sometimes you just need to rule things out...

Well, after beating my head against the wall over and over again, tweaking everything three times, and dressing the frets even though they looked fine, I decided I should change the string.

Turns out it was the right call, half the string measures .105, the other half measures .092. And it's a D'addario!?! That solves that weird buzz.

No need to pay me. Glad it worked for ya!

Chris knows!

I insist on changing strings when I do my set-ups even if the client says that they just put the existing strings on (unless they are exotics that I don't have) just to eliminate that possibility. Of course no guarantees that my new strings won't have an issue but we have had excellent luck with D'Addarios.

Sometimes the simplest things, reminds me of Occam's razor.

PS: We purchased a microscope with a display to show clients bad winds on strings. It's not all that uncommon especially on two brands, not D'Addario that I'll avoid naming publicly.

Please let D'Addario know about the issue.... They are one of the few companies that still care. They will send some stuff your way most likely.

Will do Brian. It was such a weird experience. I've been using D'addario strings for the last 25 years, love them, and have never had a problem before, and doubt I will again any time soon.

I do the same Hesh, and this was a brand new pack I had just bought for this particular job.

I sent D'addario an e-mail, got a response the next day. They're gonna send me a replacement string and were very concerned and wanted to know when and where I purchased the string. I'm super impressed.

We've exclusively carried D'Addario since our opening seven years ago and have installed tens of thousands of their strings. It's so very rare that we've had a bad string that we talk about this with clients. I would estimate less than one a year for us and likely less than one every two years.

I personally like D'Addario strings too and use them on all my axes and not just because they are free for me. :). I like the consistent feel and performance. A restring should not need to be set-up again if using the same strings as last time.

D'Addario has been my first choice in strings for decades... Wish I could say it's the only brand I stock, but I carry more from that company than all the rest combined.

I long ago stopped worrying and learned to love the fact that d’addario strings are consistent in quality, sound good, can be bought anywhere and are fairly priced. Surely life’s too short to chase the dragon for a better string when such a good option is so readily available?
