Post subject:  SEARCHING HELP I need apiece of GUILD Binding B/W/B

Hello dear colleagues,

I am trying to bring back to life an older Guild JF 65-12 steelstring guitar.
Despite a neck reset and a refret, I need to replace a missing piece of the Balck / White / Black binding at the headstock.

I do not have this kind of platsic (?) binding in the fitting thickness.
I am more the wood-binding type of guitarmaker, and also we do not have so many sources for this kind of material here in Europe.

My question:

Perhaps somebody here as the perfect matching material, or perhaps even a small piece of original GUILD binding which would
do the job a s good as possible? I think 2-3 inches would be more than enough...

Placed in an envelope, I think it should be easy to send to me Germany. Of course I pay the shipping costs!

I attached some pictures for easier understanding.

So, is there anybody with some leftovers of some Guild repairs who is willing to help me?

Thank you very much in advance, cheers, Alex

AND....can somebody help me with dating the guitar and the serial number:

JF650388

By using this homepage I do not find a matching result:
But I guess 1988 ?

just a thought - - - it may be more productive to look for two pieces of binding, the thinner black&white for one and the thicker all-white for the other. I suspect that these are of more standard dimensions.

Looks like pretty standard binding/purfling to me. I agree with Peter that it would be best to piece it together because you will have a hard time finding an exact match that is already laminated together. It looks like the inner white strip is thicker than the black line. I could send you some miscellaneous oversize pieces that would probably work but you would have to size them to match.

Thank you so far for your comments.
Yes, probably I have to use just "normal" binding material, perhaps in seperate layers.
Which is fine and no problme at all.
I was just hopeing that you guys over in the USA have all boxes in your workshops full with old original Guild binding material ... ;)
Would just be nice if the material is really the same and the color would match perfectly.

Perhaps I am lucky and someone has some stuff left over...

Cheers, Alex

I just received some 1.5mmx1.5 from a company over there called "Northwest Guitars" in Cheshire England. Maybe they will have something.

I used varying layers of .020 stewmac black and white. Laminated with the little stewmac tool and solvent.
