Hey now, perhaps drilling a hole in the x-brace was a carefully-planned attempt to reduce soundboard mass?? |

Hey so guess what landed on the bench today - ANOTHER guitar with a hole drilled in the lower peak of the bass side x brace with a messy twist tie for cable retention. There is now a pattern here and modus operandi that may point to someone local doing this as their standard technique during pickup installs I’m somewhat baffled, surely one of the many self adhesive cable management options are easier and less destructive options than drilling a hole in the brace blind while up to your elbow in a soundhole? |

Are we sure this was a mod? I had an acoustic (can't remember the make) come across the bench that had something similar. And I'm almost certain it came from the factory that way. As long as the brace is designed to have the hole, it shouldn't be a strength issue, ignoring sloppy wiring bouncing around. |

It’s possible - both these guitars are different brands but both made in China so possibly out of the “same factory” or at least factories that share production processes… |

It's a puzzlement. |

How the heck could you drill a hole in the brace in a closed box? Definitely suggests a factory operation. |

Thank you Mr. Daniels. You said what was in my mind, but not on my tongue. Those holes looked pretty perpendicular to the brace. |

It’s one or more Chinese factories doing this. I’ve now seen a few, all Chinese, all made in recent years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
