I want to use cloth to re-enforce my sides this time. I've heard people say they soak them in hide glue. Sounds pretty messy. But I like the theory behind them in lieu of wood braces,I think. My question is, do I cut up my wife's pillow cases, when she's not watching, or is there a special material? I've never been too comfortable in a Joan's Fabric store, so I have no clue what material to use.

If my wife catches me, I'm blaming Serge.

Clinton,
Do you plan on reinforcing the 100% of the sides? I agree with Done by the way the material to use is Bias tape. Just a personal opinion, If you are not building your sides way thin and you are reinforcing 100% of them, It seems to me t be just a waist of material. If you have had issues in the past them maybe the problem is systematic to another issue.

I am guessing I read full reinforcement into your post and you only intend to reinforce areas to precautionarily prevent a crack from spreading.

But This won't be the first time I have miss read and not likly to be the last MichaelP38957.5366319444

I should re-phrase. I've seen or heard people using 1 inch wide or so pieces of "some kind" of cloth, soaked in hide glue in lieu of wood braces. Maybe three of them a side. What's bias tape? Can I go to fabric store and ask for bias tape?

Just bite the bullet and go to the fabric store, it builds character. Just don't get pink tape.
All I do is use a 2" wide piece of tape and lay it across on both sides of the spot I'll put the tape, Dunk the tape in your glue of choice and lay it in place. Use a damp rag to press it down and remove excess glue. Peel the tape off after the glue is dry and your done. Then install your linings right over the top of the tape and you have crack protection from front to back.John How38957.6590856481

You guys crack me up! I guess and can do that. Do you leave the sides a little thicker with the bias tape than if you would use wood braces? I thinned mine down to .009". Maybe too thin?? for tape on this one? Clinton

Could you post a pict of the bias tape you use.
Also, a pict of them installed.
Thanks

i'm betting you meant .090" for the sides, not .009.. i hope Although .009 would bend really easy

When I go to the fabric store I always buy a yard of "woodland camo", that way people think I'm wacko! They wouldn't even dare look you in the eyes!

Sorry for being late Clinton, i hope your wife didn't catch you in the closit cutting up her pillow cases!

Anyone knows what's the name for bias tape in French, it'd be quicker to get out of the French Wal Mart unnoticed!
