Just a quick question about Z-Poxy... I did a search on all the past articles and it looks like everybody is really happy with it. My question pertains to a comment I saw -- somebody stated they wouldn't use Z-Poxy under shellac, but there were no other comments about it since. Since I French polish my guitars, is Z-Poxy not appropriate? It also mentioned that the epoxy dries slightly yellow. Is that accurate? Thanks!

Sorry but I can't answer your questions as I have never used it before. I wouldn't think there would be any issues using it under shellac as long as you sanded it to give the shellac something to bit to.

Z-poxy has a fairly substantial yellow cast. If you want a water white finish don't use it. It looks nice if you are trying to simulate a laquer finish with a waterbased finish.

What I like most about it is it's drying speed and sandability. If I want super clear I have some system 3 super clear epoxy but it take considerably longer to dry, a couple of days as opposed to several hours with z-poxy. By dry I mean sandable dry.

Another good thing I've noticed about z-poxy and maybe this is just epoxy in general is very little to no shrinkage after puting on the finish. I've had guitars finished for several months with other fillers and nooticed the pores coming back but not so with this stuff.

I don't know too much about the shellac compatability but you know, Shellac and epoxy are both alcohol soluble so I don't see why there would be a problem. Try some tests and see what happens

I have no problem with Z-poxy under FP finish. I like the mellower tone it adds to FP more vintage look and really makes the wood shine, especially on Koa.

A question for those in the know: how many guitars will one bottle do, and how long will a bottle of the stuff last? I don't build a whole lot, so I'd like to know whether buying 2 is wisdom or idiocy.

I've used Z-poxy under nitro, waterborne (KTM9), and french polish all with good results. Z-poxy under french polish works great and in my opinion looks much better than pumice filled (I've done both). Z-poxy and french is now my favorite finish by far.

I spread it on with a razor blade with the corners rounded off. Usally it takes only two coats
