Thanks for the tip Tracy. I am going to forward that link to my wife, Karen for X-Mas.

Since I work a taxi ride from Frankie's place, I might have to invite myself over and hear in person what you mean by a "distinctive sound!" Anyone want a report?

Hi, Karl and Welcome.

Folks, if we really want to do this, I can take the lead and make some suggestions, but not until January. My firm is moving and that with X-mas means pure chaos until after the new year starts.

Unless there are any volunteers to host/organize a get-together. Speak up if you are good at this kind of thing!!!!!

Steve,

My firm is located in Deerfield on Lake Cook Road. That's pretty close to Evanston. It may be a good place to meet for people up north and in the northwest suburbs.

Would be great to meet some people and talk shop as I'm getting ready to start a couple of guitars.

Frankie,

Your website and work looks really great. Would you mind a novice dropping in to visit? I'm not sure where the Avondale is - sounds like something up on the north side.

Ray,

No problem at all. My contact info is on my website. Just drop me a line.
Also sorry for being tardy from the forum. Real busy at the shop these days.
I have some really rare Larson Bros. Instruments on the way for restoration. I
will post some pics. Hope everything is great in your worlds...

Ray- thanks for the location offer. Its close to the highway so easy for everyone to get to. What's the name of your firm I probably drive by it all the time.

I propose we pick a date and throw out some ideas for a loose agenda so everyone can get what they want out of it

That sounds really good, what about a couple of dates?

I ran into a website for luthiers of northern texas LINT. www.lint.org

They might have some good ideas for a loose organization.

I am thinking something in January after all of the hubbub of the holiday seasons. Shall we shoot for the last weekend in January, like the 28th?

Karl, haven't got to the what to bring, yet. The actual meeting place is not yet set. My shop is not yet fitted out for scratch building. I would like a volunteer who can show us how he does his guitars. Raymond, are you up for this???

I am thinking, off the top of my head, one or more guitars, or something to show, jigs, tools, etc., work in progress. A braced top perhaps. Time is probably going to be early afternoon til about dinner time for those who have to travel, like JJ. We can order in, pizza or something, and I can supply drinks, etc.

Sound good so far?

Guys,

Depending how many people are interested in meeting, I can host at either my home (in Elmhurst) or at my office (in Deerfield). In either case, you will all have to excuse the mess - even when I clean for company, it sill looks messy! Oh yeah, no one can make too much fun of my guitars too !!

Let's pencil this date down as a tentative. We should all think about what we would like to discuss too.

Ray

Steve...I just thought of something important! Should the Bears continue to perform well, January 28 may be right in the middle of a playoff weekend. While I am certainly motivated to drive to Chicago for a meeting, I would be hard-pressed to miss a Bear playoff game. I'll research the schedule for the playoffs.

Bears, playoffs? Is this the team that couldn't even beat Miami. Either way, conference championships are 21 Jan and the superbowl is 4 Feb. Either way I figure your Sundays should be cleared up by 13-14 Jan. I'm a Browns fan so my Sundays will open up much earlier, usually around mid-December!

I'm hoping I can join all you guys, but I won't know my school workload until much closer. If I'm free, I'd like to come up and bring my latest 3 builds in progress.

Cheers!

John

Welcome to the forum, jpmoore! You found the right place. I look forward to meeting you and the rest of the Chicago group in January.

All of us did a first build at one time and will be glad to give advice based on that which worked for each builder.

Welcome Kevin! And welcome to the OLF.

Glad to have you on board. We need as many of the experienced builders to show up as possible.

Everyone, looks like a green light for the 28th of January.   So, pencil in that day. Ray in Elmhurst has volunteered to host us. More details to follow as we plan this thing. Will post as the date nears.

Cheers.
